Founding Editor-in-Chief.

Open. Actively being filled.

The Founding Editor-in-Chief runs the editorial operation — deciding what stories we tell, who we feature, who we don’t, and holding the editorial line, including against funders, sponsors, and partners. It’s a real founding role, not a junior seat.

The spec

What this seat actually is.

The role
Shape the editorial direction of The Steady and any future Steady America properties. Review and commission contributor pitches. Maintain editorial standards. Sit at the table with the founder on every meaningful editorial decision.
Background
Political science, political philosophy, history, or government — formally or informally.
Experience
Some editorial or media experience: a college paper, a Substack with real readership, freelance bylines, indie podcasting. Doesn’t need to be long. Just real.
Temperament
Civil, evidence-grounded, restrained, allergic to partisan staging — and comfortable disagreeing with the founder in writing.
Location
Dallas–Fort Worth strongly preferred. Remote possible for the right candidate.
Compensation
No salary at the start — Steady America is pre-revenue. The full picture, including equity and the path forward, is best discussed in person. We’d rather get the conversation right than reduce it to numbers on a form.
